Keeping A Positive Mind In High School
I know high school can be tough. Even if you think you're the only one who feels that way, you would be wrong. Everyone goes through the fear of transition to high school. The best way of keeping a positive mind is to just focus on the better things to come. I have come to realize that high school will probably be the easiest part of my life. Now, you may think I'm crazy. Take it from someone who has graduated. I was terrified senior year. Even if I knew I was gonna graduate I still had that little fear. I think in a way everyone does. We all wanted the same thing senior year and that was to be done. The things that kept me positive were having great support from my teachers and everyone and also thinking that I could do it. You never want to have it in your mind that you are gonna fail or you most likely will. While graduating is important, remember to go out and have a little fun every now and then. You are only young once so enjoy it as much as you can.
Keep Your Friends Close
High school will be one of the biggest changes for you in a way you won't expect. In my last four years of school I have lost and gained some friends. Specifically, during my senior year I dated someone who had already been one of my best friends. I thought we were perfect together in every way. Our parents loved us together and so did our friends. We dated for exactly three months and then we broke up. I was so heartbroken, but not because we broke up. I was heartbroken because of how it went and because I lost one of my best friends. I wanted to give up on everything. I didn't have a positive outlook anymore. I think the only reason I got through it was because of my friends. For weeks I didn't want to do anything. I completely lost myself but because of my friends and everyone else I made it through. You will learn who your true friends are by seeing who sticks with you in the hard times. You may not always be able to keep the same people around but be thankful for who stays. Of course you can miss that person. Sometimes I still do miss him. I don't miss the relationship necessarily but I do miss the constant good times we had. My point is, don't get discouraged because people leave. Be happy with the ones who didn't. They are the ones who will keep you going in the good and bad times.
School Work Positivity
I know you may be thinking, "How can school work be positive?". Well, it totally can be with the right mind set. Now, I can admit I got really tired of all the school work and wanted to quit by junior year. I hated the endless hours of doing school work. You know what got me through it? Thinking of all the good things to come after graduation. I can say now that all the hard work has worked good in my favor. I graduated class of 2017 and now I'm a freshman at IUP. I know we all dread the SAT's. I took mine and believe me it was not easy. I may not have liked it but it got me into college. My advice to you would be to always do your work. Some tips on getting yourself to enjoy doing the work is also throwing in something you love. One of my favorites is listening to music while working. Something else that I love is using bright notecards and highlighters. The bright colors throw in a little fun. Schoolwork doesn't have to be the horrible nightmare we make it out to be. It is stressful but in the end worth it.
Be Involved In Activities
Whether it is a dance or a sport, you want to be involved in something. Find something you enjoy doing and do it. Doing something you love in school will make it more positive for you. For example, I was in choir for years. I loved singing in school and it gave me opportunities. I got to do so much I never thought I would. One year we traveled to New York and then a couple years later Disney World. Those were two of the most amazing experiences of my life. Also, I went to every dance we had at school. The best thing about it was getting to go with all of my friends and enjoying it. If you find something you love to do, it will make your school experience way more positive for you. I promise that having something that makes you happy will make it all worth it in the end. Make the most of these years before they are gone.Wrapping Up Positivity
Remember to find the things that make you happy and go after them. I promise that you will have a great high school experience if you do. Work hard and have fun and you will love it. In the end you will feel so relieved and everyone will be proud. Keep moving forward in a positive direction.
